Press - Technics - Inspiration
What settles around the work while it's being made.
Notes from the studio and the slow business of building a surface; the images and objects that feed the eye before they reach the panel; words from outside, as the paintings meet their readers; and pieces written from inside the practice itself.
The margin of the work — where the thinking is still wet.
Trained to Look
You can tell in half a second whether you want it. That speed isn't instinct — it was taught. These paintings are built to catch the trained eye in the act.
From Tablet to Relief
Every painting starts on a screen — weightless, reversible, easy to throw away. The studio is where I drag it into matter it can't get out of.
Two Millimetres
Two millimetres is almost nothing — less than the ridge of a fingernail. It's also the whole reason my paintings behave like objects instead of images.
