“玉女特選 yù nǚ tè xuǎn — four characters that turn a tomato into a woman. A woman becomes jade. A piece of jade becomes something to consume and to be desired.”

This series begins with four characters printed on a cherry-tomato carton at a Taipei market — 玉女特選, Jade Lady, Premium Selection.

It's a sales slogan, but it stages a whole logic: a fruit made into a woman, the woman made into precious jade, the jade made into something to own. The paintings build their still lifes out of that slippage.

Fruit, flowers, a passport photo, a piece of jade — chosen, sorted, set against bare grounds, held somewhere between the market stall and the ancestral altar, between merchandise and offering. Beneath the sweetness, something sharper waits: the labour that grew it, the body behind it, sometimes a quiet threat.

Built in dense relief over hundreds of hours, the work gives that invisible order of classification a weight you can feel.
