“What is that?”

The statue of the Winged Victory, once a monument to divine triumph, becomes uncanny when subjected to algorithmic beautification—transformed into something strange, neither classical nor contemporary. This disquieting metamorphosis parallels the journey of "vasistas," a word that embodies language's own slippage between meaning and form.

Originating from the German phrase "Was ist das?" (what is that?) and transformed through French into the word for a transom window, "vasistas" captures the humorous and strange journey of linguistic transformation. 

This layered transformation parallels the conceptual shifts in my work: images are algorithmically reinterpreted, meanings transposed through digital filters, and humor subtly emerges from the slippage between signifier and signified. Like the Victory statue made uncanny through computational enhancement, "vasistas" becomes a metaphor for the instability of representation and the generative tension between translation, perception, and playful subversion—echoing the core themes of seduction, ambiguity, and the constructed gaze that define my practice.
